she could be your grandmaw!

hello folks, meet lynne stewart, a grandma from brooklyn and a people's lawyer.

"Radical human rights attorney Lynne Stewart has been falsely accused of helping terrorists. Now convicted, she faces 30 years in prison. On Tuesday, April 9, 2002, she was arrested and agents searched her Manhattan office for documents. She was arraigned before Manhattan federal Judge John Koeltl. This is an obvious attempt by the U.S. government to silence dissent, curtail vigorous defense lawyers, and install fear in those who would fight against the U.S. government's racism, seek to help Arabs and Muslims being prosecuted for free speech and defend the rights of all oppressed people."
- Who is Lynne Stewart? www.lynnestewart.org

i attended a fundraising and solidarity event last night on 17th street between 5th and 6th avenue. i met this gentle yet defiant, funny yet principled woman and nothing about her screams terrorist. on the contrary, she has dedicated 30 years of her life in exposing the real terrorists in the world today, the US government and its system of racism, oppression and greed.

cant help but wonder if this is another ploy of the us government to strike fear and paranoia among people, a fear of "nothing" to subjugate and control us easier. they are trying to instill in our minds that if they can do it to lynne, invade her privacy by listening on her phone calls and concocting fuck up charges and evidences, they could do it to us, average people. one thing i want to say to that? --- we dont have to be scared!

just like the recent release of the philippine government of the 47 names and the soon to be added jane and john does, accused of rebellion, a plot to overthrow the government, is nothing but a means to instill fear among those critical of a system so oppressive and unjust that it employs its fascist means to quell the people's disdain over its policy and the general direction in which it is taking the country.

do you know what i say to that?--- as the words of people who came up and gave their loving support for lynne last night, i leave friends with these words... we will not be cowed, we are many they are few, they have the power, WE CAN TAKE THAT POWER.

if you value your freedoms, and you respect and uphold human rights visit www.lynnestewart.org and do anything to help, while you are at it you might as well visit www.bayanusa.org, it is cool to know the issues.
